Description The project was carried out in two phases. The first phase was the construction of an extension to provide a new kitchen and an extension to the existing headmaster’s office. This was done in term time and done with minimal disruption to the school. The second phase commenced once the school broke up for the summer holidays. Inside the main school building a new central heating system was installed throughout the school along with a number of internal alterations to convert the existing kitchen into a classroom extension and internal toilet block. The second phase also included the break through for the new rooms in to the existing school. This was a tight programme with approximately nine weeks work done in six. Other considerations included a lot of “matching existing” with a lot of stone features on the external masonry. A substantial wall (600mm thick) also had to be supported and removed to provide a large opening inside the school.
