Case Study: Building Project
School extension and refurbishment
Contract School extension and refurbishment, Parwich Primary School
Client Derbyshire County Council
Architect/
Project Manager
Derbyshire County Council
Contract Value £100,000
Carried out December 2002 to June 2003

Description
A sympathetic extension to match the surrounding structures within a small limestone village. The extension to the rear of the main school building could only be accessed through a small personnel gate and across the playground. As the work was carried out during term time, consideration had to be given to school activities and due to the tight confines of the site, sequencing of material delivery was paramount. “Just in time” planning was utilised.

The building foundations were complex with part of the foundation underpinning the existing school building and half of the extension built over the existing plant room.
