Description
This project first involved the construction of concrete retaining walls to support the existing buildings around the perimeter of this tight, awkward, city centre site. Single sided formwork was used to cast the retaining walls against the sides of the excavation which was rock and self supporting.
Our part of the works to this new modular building comprised the construction of the reinforced concrete foundations, the circular and square section columns, the elevated concrete frame up to the podium level and new concrete paving to the undercroft parking area.
The use of individual pre-finished ‘pods’ for the accommodation areas of the building, meant that the concrete frame had to be constructed to a high degree of accuracy, with minimal tolerance allowed in permitted deviation of line or level.
