A regular client needed a storage and loading facility to keep its manufactured products dry prior to leaving site.
With minimal available space around the plant, a large excavation operation was carried out prior to the construction of a traditional steel portal framed structure, clad with insulated cladding to the roof and building sides. A low level blockwork cavity wall was also installed around three sides.
At one end of the building the finished floor level was some 2m below the adjacent carpark. As parking space for the foundry was at a premium, a concrete retaining wall was constructed as the building wall, to ensure car parking could continue right up to the building.
A loading bay was constructed between the existing and new buildings. New vehicle and pedestrian entrances were formed through the existing building shell to allow access into the new storage facility and the loading area. All works were carried out around the Client’s day to day operations with minimal disruption.
